Perne Road / Perne Avenue

History of Perne Road / Avenue

Andrew Perne, 1519-1589 was a benefactor of the town. It was his idea in 1574 to bring the waters of Shelford into Cambridge. The plan was carried out by ‘Undertakers’ (who hoped to make money by it, in 1610, amongst whom Thomas Hobson was the predominant partner.
