A valuable source of early history of the parishes is ‘A History of the Wilbraham Parishes‘ by Rev Canon H P Stokes, pub. 1926.

It notes that at the time of the Norman Conquest, a alrge portion of Great Wilbraham had been transferred from Ordmaer, a vassal of Queen Edith, to Alan, a follower of King William. Earl Alan nominated Odo his chamberlain as sub-tenant.

In the 13th century the village was a base for some Knights Templar.

Near Little Wilbraham there is an important Anglo-Saxon graveyard. It was excavated in 1851.
