History of Thornberry Farm, Wimpole
1895
By this year Jabez Ablett and his wife Selina had moved to the farm. He is described as ‘farmer’.
1898
Jabez auctions off the farm and stock.
The Herts & Cambs Reporter (30th September 1898) lists details of an auction. “Messrs J Carter Jones & Sons are instructed by Jabez Ablett (who is leaving the farm) to sell by auction on the premises, the whole of the live and dead farming stock comprising: 8 horses (including 6 powerful cart mares; 3 excellent shorthorn cows; 100 head of poultry; and an assortment of agricultural implements; as well as crops, such as mangolds).”
The family moved to South End, Bassingbourn.
