St Mary, Hardwick

History of St Mary's

Listed Building

Parish Church. Late C14, nave, chancel, and tower with one notably earlier C14 chancel window. Restored in 1901 by Mr Rickett of Abingdon directed by Detmar Blow (1867-1939). (Historic England)

In the early 20th century the relationship between the Rector and his congregation was at very low ebb. (Vanishing Cambridgeshire p.118)

The CDN 18.7.1903 reported something  like a riot in the village.

The CDN 1.6.1904 reported that the congregation had dwindled to eight and others were holding services in a dilapidated cottage.
