Lion Hotel, High Street, Buckden

History of the Lion Hotel

Listed building:

Formerly a coaching inn and now a hotel. The original building c.1500 of hall and cross-wing is timber-framed and jettied with very fine moulded ceiling beams and large inglenook hearth. In C18 it was incorporated into a brick building with a street facade of two storeys and attics, and nine bays including a cartway. The cartway was rebuilt in the late C19 to three storeys with a slated, gable roof with projecting bracketed eaves. High Street facade, largely C18 and C19 with C20 alterations and details.
