The nucleus of the house may be the Chantry referred to in VCH Northamptonshire Vol II Page 505
Defending Cambridgeshire by Mike Osborne p.42 has interesting comments about this location. He notes that the two light window in the gable wall of Chapel Cottage is the only visible remnant of the castle chapel, and therefore of the whole castle at Maxey which belonged to Margaret Beaufort.
