Whilst the enumeration of the properties along the north west side of Thompson’s Lane, nos.28 – 35, has been relatively consistent from the 19th to the 20th centuries, the properties on the south east side have changed a great deal.
1861 census shows a list from no.1 to no. 30 unbroken.
1871 and 1881 censuses start at no. 3 and continues to no.34.
In 1891 there is a sharp reduction in the number of properties. Nos 3 to 9 are listed then there is a gap until 23.
In 1901 only nos 4 and 6 seem to be listed on the south side.
The 1885 Cambridge Town Plan shows the absence of properties on the south east side:
