George Bedwell (c1845-1934) set up his piano and instrument shop at Cecilia House in Hills Road in 1874. They had a works in Tenison Road 1896-1933 and showrooms in St Mary’s Passage c.1912-28 and 130 East Road 1933-36. There were also branches in Bournemouth, Clacton-on-Sea, Norwich and Colchester. They became builders of small pipe organs c.1891 and also made harmoniums.
