Fitzroy Street (South Side)(East) (Eden Walk)

History of Fitzroy Street (East)

Before circa 1850 Fitzroy Street was divided between two street names, Eden Walk, and Blucher Row. It is not clear which parts of Fitzroy Street fell under the former names, but in 1848 the Old English Gentleman (later no.47 Fitzroy Street) was still listed as being in Eden Walk.

These listing cover the part of Fitzroy Street which was destroyed in the building of the Grafton Centre in the 1980s.

In July 1974 these were the only two houses left standing between East Road Corner and the Old English Gentleman which were still inhabited. The house was next to Nelson Street and the black notice board above the street sign reads in faint gold lettering:
