Thoroughfare Way (Yard), Littleport

History of Thoroughfare Yard

This was the site of the village gallows in the 18th century. The last man believed to have been hanged there was Thomas Eaton of Soham who was executed 17th September 1783 for setting fire to Mr Tansley’s barns. His last words were “Gentlemen, I die innocent.”
