In 2005-6 excavations were carried out on the route of the A1198.

The conclusion of the report states that the location of the a cemetery of this period on the western claylands is unique. Arable faming would have been difficult and therefore permanent settlement would have taken a long time to be established. The creation of burial sites such as this would have been a form of ‘social markers’ over time.
