See One Man’s Cambridge by J A Charles: Frances Caroline Charles married Joseph Manning in 1853, a coal merchant and gardener, originally from Soham. Their son, William, joined the staff of the University Observatory in 1905 as assistant to H F Newall.
In 1911 the family are living at 61 Richmond Road.

Derek Gibbons ran an antiquarian bookshop. He told Sara Payne (23.4.1981 CWN) that when drains in green Street had flooded not many years before, a quantity of bear fur was found to be responsible. See The Volunteer, Green Street.
