Sidney Sussex gateway Jesus Lane

Sidney College gateway, Jesus Lane

History of Sidney College gateway

A B Gray in Cambridge Revisited points out that this gate originally stood in Sidney Street opening into the court facing the Master’s Lodge. In 1832 an imitation of a medieval gateway-tower was made and the old gateway relegated to this position. It is adjacent to the brick wall built by the Franciscans who originally occupied the site.
