The Chapel became the Cambridge Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital Number 36. Cottenham in Focus (2002) (quoted in Vanishing Cambridge) notes: Twenty patients were received in the chapel schoolroom. A bathroom containing a bath with hot and cold water was added in December 1916 at a time when few houses in the village had such facilities. The Chapel deacons asked the Red Cross to leave in October 1917 after occupants were discovered dancing and playing cards on the premises. The patients were subsequently accommodated at the Rectory.
