90 Hartington Grove, Clacton Villa

History of 90 Hartington Grove

1901

(Clacton Villa)

John W Spriggs, 34, domestic coachman, born Cambs

Hannah, 35, born Norfolk

John W., 4, born Suffolk

Thomas E., 1, born Cambridge

1911

(Clacton Villa)

William Kett, 49, stonemason, born Cherryhinton

Elizabeth, 48, housework, born Cherryhinton (9 children, 1 died)

Daisy Lillian Kett, 17, general servant, born Cherryhinton

Pollie Hiner Kett, 13, born Cherryhinton

Bernard James Kett, 9, born Cherryhinton

Frederick Sidney, 3, born Cherryhinton

William Kett (born 1862), carpenter and farmer according to the 1911 census, was the son of Esau Kett and Susannah (nee Grainge). Susannah was already a widow in 1871; Esaw[u] does appear in the 1861 census where his birthplace is stated as Wymondham in Norfolk and his year of birth can be inferred as 1839. However, there seems to be no evidence to link him closely with the Kett family of Rattee and Kett  with whom he must have come into contact in Cambridge at this time.
