A Tailor & a Jobbing Gardener
1881
The Kerridges live here in 1881. Charles Kerridge is a 33 year old widower who was born in Walsham le Willows, Suffolk. He’s a bricklayer. He has two young children: Ada is 8 and Charles is 4. Both children attend school. Ann Tilley, 38, is their housekeeper.
1891
In 1891, 29 Kingston Street is home to the Greenwood family. Thomas Greenwood, a 34 year old Tailor, is married to 31 year old Jane Greenwood. They have three children: Edwin, aged 7; Albert, aged 5; and Frank, aged 2. None of the children are in school.
1901
By 1901, 29 Kingston Street is home to the large Stanford family. Elizabeth Stanford, a 42 year old from Chesterton, is married to John Stanford, a 45 year old Jobbing Gardener from Chesterton. They have seven children: William, aged 19, an Ironmonger’s assistant; Florence, aged 18, a Tailoress; Rose, aged 16; Fred, aged 8; Ethel, aged 6; and newborn twins Thomas and Ada.
1911
By 1911, 29 Kingston Street is home to Harriett Page, a 53 year old Widow from Henham in Essex. She has two boarders: Herbert Jarvis, a 26 year old Postman from Kings Lynn; and Frederick Bushel, a 23 year old Clerk. from Wisbech. Also present is a visitor, 30 year old Charles Smith, a Motor Bus ‘Chauffeur’ from Rickling Green, Essex.
