From SB in 2021:
The only other property we have any knowledge of is what was referred to as ‘Aunt Sarah’s Cottage’ in Clay Street. My aunt recalls my grandfather inheriting this in a derelict state and having to re thatch it for £50 which was an entire year’s rent in the 1940’s. Quite why he inherited this property so long after her death I’ve no idea. Aunt Sarah appeared to be living at 38, Clay Street , Histon in 1901 then aged 88. She died later that year.
The connection with the Chivers family goes back a long way to when James Burkett , father of James Burkett my great great grandfather married another Ann Chivers in Cottenham. They moved to Histon we think because of the outbreak of Smallpox in Cottenham in the 1790’s .
