History of the Linton Literary Institute
Listed Building:
Printing workshop, formerly The Linton Literary Institute and meeting house. Mid C18 with C19 alterations. Timber-framed with plain tiled and pantiled mansard roof, half hipped to street. One storey and attic. Street elevation with eight-panelled door flanked by two horizontal sliding sash windows with two similar, smaller attic windows. Blank panel above door. Death mask above west door. C18 details survive in bolection moulded doorcase, remains of original window frames and an original chimney piece. The Linton Literary Institute was established c.1873. The existence of this shows that the town was quite up to date in the C18. …. Notice the face above the door.
