History of 74 Searle Street

74 Searle Street in 1885 (Cambridgeshire Collection)

In the photo Frederick French is standing by the door next to Abigail holding an infant. There are two children seated in the pony and trap. There is a tall bakehouse to the side of the premises. Frederick and Abigail French ran a bakery and corn merchants here from the early 1880s until after 1911. Flour was available from nearby Chesterton Mill run by his brother in French’s Road.
