Mike Petty’s Fenland History noted the following:
Frederick Howard, Bill Howard and Harry Taylor at the smithy which moved to a new site opposite the turning to Hall Lane where William Howard continued as a farrier and blacksmith until his death in 1948. The smithy was demolished for new houses but the stable remains and was converted into a bus shelter. [R.H. Cory. Historical notes on Brinkley. 1973]. As the number of horses used on the farm declined so blacksmiths had to diversify.
