CCJ 24.4.1875: CAMBRIDGE POLICE COURT. SATURDAY.—(Before the Mayor, C. Ralls, G. D. Liveing, and E Smith Esqs.)-Jane Turner, of Ainsworth Street. charged with stealing a wedding-ring, value 5s the property of Morris Duncombe, stonemason, Gwydir-street, on the previous Wednesday. Mrs Duncombe stated that on Tuesday night the ring being safe in a glass on the chimney piece. in the eating room, and next morning when she came down stairs it was missing. and door of the room was open. Her husband went out as usual a little before six that morning, by the door which opens into room, and he said that he closed it. After he husband had left, she heard footsteps in the room. Witness identified the ring produced as her property, and said it was of the value of 5s. An assistant to Mrs. Cole and Son., pawnbrokers, Bridge street, gave evidence to the effect that the prisoner came to the shop on Wednesday morning, and pledged the ring for 3s. Had seen the prisoner in the shop once before. Some furtherer evidence having been given, the prisoner who was stated to be addicted to habits of intemperance, that the ring which she pledged was her own property.—Sentenced two months hard labour.
