1913 North House
James H Robinson
This house was once lived in by the actor and film star Robert Donat and his wife Ella Voysey. They were acting at the Festival Theatre in Newmarket Road in productions such as the Rivals. This house was their ‘ideal digs’ and their first married home. The house is described in J C Trewin’s biography of Robert Donat.
The house was actually owned by the parents of Mrs C D Newman, Mr and Mrs Smee. Mr and Mrs Smee lived there until 1938 when they became licensees of the Rhadegund Tap in James Street.
