4 Malcolm Street

History of 4 Malcolm Street

1913

Miss A M Marr

1931

Walter Sibbard Adie gave 4 Malcolm Street as his address when purchasing an assignment of 16 Millington Road.

PC sent this note in 2025: Walter has a Wilipedia page.  He was born 17 August 1872 in Barnes, Surrey attended Trinity College, Cambridge University, from October 1891.  He graduated in 1894 in mathematics as Senior Wrangler (top of his class); he was awarded his M.A. in 1895 (Cambridge Independent Press 15 June 1894).  He rowed for Cambridge in the 1895 Boat Race but was in the losing boat (Cambridge Independent Press 5 April 1895).  In 1896 Walter joined the Indian Civil Service where he served as accountant general until 1929 when he retired and returned to Cambridge.  He taught Asian languages at the University and eventually donated manuscripts and maybe sculpture from Asia to various museums in Cambridge.  He seems to have moved to 16 Millington Road in 1931 (I am doing research on Millington Road and will send through a summary of that when I am ready).  He seems to have had two brothers who were also teaching at the University.
