History of 36 Trumpington Street
George Peck was the sixth son of William Peck and Mary Ann Peck. He was born in 1826 in Newnham. He was apprenticed to Thomas Willerton, chemist, of Coventry in 1841. when he came back to Cambridge he became an assistant to Dr Carter of Petty Cury and then took over the business of T Cox, chemist, presumably at this address.
William Peck, b 1785 Chigwell Row, Essex, died in 1841 in Cambridge. Mary Ann was the daughter of Sir Charles Savill, born 1786 in Chigwell Row, and died Theydon Bois, 1876. Mary Ann is buried at Christ Church Cambridge with her husband and three of her sons, William, Charles and Jonathan. It is said that because she married William Peck, she was deprived of any inheritance by her father.

In 1870 George was a ‘Volunteer’ and then a churchwarden of Little St Mary’s Church. He was also a member of the Board of Guardians and later sat on the Borough Council.
In 1874 Peck purchased the premises at 30 Trumpington Street.
In 1881 the family were at 30 Trumpington St.
