Bridge Road, later Victoria Avenue circa 1887

Bridge Road / Victoria Avenue

History of Bridge Road

William Bates c1880 (J Palmer Clarke)

This picture is labelled as ‘William Bates on his ferry in the 1890s’ in ‘Images of England Chesterton 2013: Chesterton Local History Group’. It seems to be taken from the later location of Victoria Bridge looking east. There is no William Bates listed in either the 1891 or 1901 census in Cambridge so the identity of the photo is a little mysterious.

Same image used by local paper in article on Old Cambridge (MoC)
