63 Broad Street, Broad Street, Ely

History of 63 Broad Street

Haylock’s corner shop. As recalled by Ann Powell in ‘The Way We Remember It’: presided over by Miss Baker. She was a large lady, given to wearing large dresses in plain or spotted navy, with lace edged modesty handkerchiefs pinned by little gold safety pins across her cleavage. She had corkscrew curls and bright rose bud lips. One window of the shop was in Back Hill, the other in Broad street.
