History of the May Tree

Church lane, Stetchworth, 1885

The May tree is mark on the island at the junction. Vanishing Cambridgeshire, p.166. notes that the old elm at the junction of Church Lane and Main Street was decorated on May Day and formed the centre for May games and festivities.
