History of 18 Stetchworth Road

The four McCalmont houses along the Stetchworth Road shared two well situated in their back gardens, from which they drew water by bucket and chain. The deep well fed from an underground spring supplied hard water for drinking and a separate soft water well collected rain-water for the washing. (R H Vincent, A Tanner Will Do)
