42, 43 & 44 Ditton Green, Woodditton

History of 42 - 44 Ditton Green

Listed Building

Farmhouse, now three dwellings. Early C17.

Walter ‘Dammit’ Damant, renowned roadman and lover of home-made wine, had acquired his nickname from a frequently uttered expression. Known as a ‘lengthman’ he had the job of keeping a certain stretch of the local roads neat and tidy … Walter rented his cottage, 43 Wood Ditton, from a neighbour, so was not dependent on a tied cottage.
