Water tower. 1894 for the Wisbech Water Works Company. The top stage contains a 100,000 gallon tank.
In 1884 the Wisbech Water Order allowed for increased supply of water and the construction of a water tower at Friday Bridge to supply March and Chatteris.
In 2026 JW sent the following message: I must point out that the picture you have of the water tower at Friday Bridge is incorrect. The tower was powered by 2 Gardner diesel engines and the one in the picture is not a Gardner. To substantiate my claim, the pump superintendent of the tower was my father (not the man pictured) who was there from 1950 until the conversion to electric pumps. It is possible that this is an earlier picture but the engine and assortment in the background do match match my own recollections.
