Leach’s Mill, Lynn Road, Wisbech

History of Leach's Mill

Listed Building

Tower windmill sited on a mound, rebuilt after a storm in 1797. Dark red brick tower with a pronounced taper. Eight storeys, originally with eight sails and balcony at third floor where entrance door remains.

Originally a corn mill, last used in 1965; the Mill House was demolished c.1969.

Leach’s Mill was one of few eight-sailed windmills in England.

1869 St Augustine’s Church built (on right of photo)

1895 during ‘Windy Sunday’ 24th March one of the sails was blown off.

1897 all the sails removed
