In foreground is the pleasure cruiser ‘Lady Alice Lambton’ the day, 8th August 1853, before it set off on excursion to the Humber. Almost 1,000 were on board.
Richard Young (1809-1871) was the greatest ship operator out of Wisbech. He had 43 boats operating out of the port over the years. He was an MP for south Cambridgeshire from 1865, mayor of Wisbech from 1858 to 1862 and Sheriff of London in 1871.
