Home Guard Hut, Papworth St Agnes

History of the Home Guard Hut

Dora Tack writes about the Home Guard Hut in Whispering Elms. It was built of corrugated iron, like a railway tunnel. It was popularly known as the Elephant Hut. It was used by the Home Guard for storing equipment. One box which had to be kept dry was stored under Dora Tack’s bed. She later discovered it was full of ‘Molotov Cocktails’.
