CIP 3.10.1885: John Gibson, clerk, of 159, Gwydir-street, was summoned for keeping a dog without a license, on the 27th of August.—Defendant said he was not home ; but he gave instructions for a license to be taken out, and he thought it was taken out. He however, took a license out on the 29th.—In answer to a question put by the Mayor as to whether the officers making complaints in these cases received any remuneration, Mr. Rice, who appeared on behalf of the Inland Revenue Office, said, under the old law, the officers received one-fourth of the penalty: but now a sheet was sent up to the Treasury, who considered the matter, and there was the chance of the officer getting promotion. The bench inflicted penalty of 2s. 6d. and costs. Allowed a week in which pay the money.
