56 Denmark Road (E Smith) pre 1923

56 Denmark Road, Cottenham

History of 56 Denmark Road

Listed Building:

C17 extended in C20.

The Saintey family lived in this house for three generations until 1923, when it was sold to the Todd family and Harry Todd lived here.

Denmark Road was renamed in honour of princess Alexandra after she came to the Cottenham Races in March 1870, along what had been previously known as Back Lane or Chequers lane. In the 17th century it was known as Wrong Street. (See Cottenham in Focus, 2002)
