Numerous buildings on the site are listed
Duxford was built in 1917 and in 1918 opened as a fighter base. Between 1928 and 1932 the airfield was enlarged and many famous pilots gained their wings there. In 1938 the very first Spitfire was delivered here by Jeffrey Quill. In WWII it was fully operational.
In October 1942 the USAAF took the base operating Bell Airacobras, P-47 and P-51 Mustang units.
