History of the Red Lion

The Warboys Home Guard would meet at their patrol building, the billiards hall of the Red Lion. It was kitted out with fours bunk beds and an armchair.

1941 J Youles, corporal in the Home Guard, remembers the capture of a German spy who parachuted and landed near Dove House Farm,  but broke his leg. Two of the men Charlie Baldock and Harry Coulson were with the Warboys Section, the third, harry Godfrey,  from Ramsey.

The prisoner was Sargeant Josel Jakobs. He was discovered with a radio transmitter, English money, food, fake ID and civilian clothes. He was found guilty of spying and executed at the Tower of London. He was the last person to be executed at the Tower.
