Elsworth in early spring (MoC117/57)The blind model maker Philip Brand was born in Elsworth in 1863. He lived for much of his life at a location described as Lucerne Field cottage which was near Howlatt Causeway, possibly the same as Church Causeway.
1871 aged 9, at Addenbrookes Hospital [it seems possible that this time at the hospital was part of the treatment for his oncoming blindness]
1881 aged 18, at Elsworth, blind
1891 aged 28, Pit Dean, Elsworth, blind
1901 aged 38, Lucerne field [next to Howlatt Causeway], blind
1911 aged 48, Lucerne Field cottage, totally blind from 10
died 1922
CamSight in Cambridgeshire have a record of him as a model maker including a photo of an engine made to drive a gramophone.
