Dovehouse Meadow, Hildersham (WM Palmer)

Hildersham Data

Mike Petty's Hildersham Scrapbook

The photo of Doverhouse Meadow, taken before 1924, shows Samuel Sewell’s cottage on the left.

W M Palmer (1924) notes that Hildersham in referred to in the Domesday Book as ‘Hildriesham’, ‘the home of Hildric.’ After Hildric another Saxon called Ulwin owned the estate but he was dispossessed in favour of Aubrey de Vere, Earl of Oxford.
