History of the War Memorial
The memorial was designed and made by Fred Bacchus the stonemason. He designed other war memorials such as the one in Cottenham.

According to The Way We Were – Recollections of Histon and Impington in 1914 (2014), by September 1914, 67 local men were serving in the Expeditionary Forces. 33 were volunteers; the others were already serving.
In September 1914 there was an appeal from the Men’s Detachment of the Red Cross for volunteer stretcher bearers.
