A black and white view of a village street with thatched cottages and a tall signpost, populated by a few small figures.

The Chequers, Rampton

History of the Chequers

A 1901 Ordnance Survey map detail showing the footprint of The Chequers public house and surrounding plots in Rampton.

Rampton, OS 1901

There is clearly a public house in the photo and if this is indeed Rampton, there was only one other public house, The Chequers, which opened in 1765 but closed in 1917. There appears to be no sign of The Chequers in the 21st century.

In 1842 the pub was sold as part of the Nutter sale of property.
