31 Hillside, Parsonage / Classical Academy / Edwin Daniel House, Sawston

History of Edwin Daniel House

Edwin Daniel was vicar of Sawston from 1836 to 1855. His wife was Martha Swann. He built a house as a private school called the Classical Academy.

Martha Swann was the daughter of William Swann who ran a carrier business from 5 Hobson Street until he died aged 69 in 1844. His son William took over the business, called Swann Waggons & Sons, and continued to run it until 1870. His brothers James and John were also said to be carriers.
