Slough Hill Lane, West Wratting

History of Slough Hill Lane

An 1885 Ordnance Survey map segment showing Slough Hill Lane, West Wratting, with field boundaries and reference numbers.

Slough Hill Lane, West Wratting, OS 1885

This lane was once the haunt of the ‘Shug Monkey’, a giant spectral dog with links to Viking myth. It was described as having the body of a large shaggy dog, the face of a monkey with huge eyes.

See Tales of Old Cambridgeshire by Polly Howat, 1990.
