BT sent this note in 2025:
My father enlisted and did his basic training in Stirling Scotland. He was sent on a ship destined for North Africa but instead was redirected to Singapore. He was in the Cambridgeshire Royal Engineers serving as a driver/mechanic. He survived malaria, toenails having grown out through his toes and under, and eventually came back at about 5 Stone in weight. His job before the war was with Herbert Robinson’s as a mechanic. After his return, the job was no longer available, however he managed to get work with Greene King as a Drayman.
After the war he lived in Willow Place.
