3 Sturton Street
A GER worker and an Upholsteress
Emily Salmon, head, unmarried, 66, needlewoman, b. Bishopsgate Within, London, Middlesex. Emily is possibly the daughter of John Salmon, a tallow chandler, who lived at 5 Peaken Court, Bishopsgate Street at the time of her baptism in 1816.
1884 – 1901
Head of household on the 1891 Census is Henry Easton. He is 64, and a labourer for the Great Eastern Railway. Henry can be found on the 1881 Census living at 3 Custom Street (now Vicarage Terrace) with his wife Mary Ann. She dies in 1882.
On the 30th June 1884, Henry married Frances Jane Langford, a 52 year old widow who was living on Coldham’s Lane. Henry gave his address as 3 Sturton Street. In 1891 Frances is working as an upholsteress.
Living with Henry and Frances in 1891 are Edith Langford (11) and John Langford (7), the children of her son James.
Henry died in 1899.
Frances is head of household in 1901. She is now recorded as being 70 and a retired Upholsteress. Her grandson John still lives with her. He is working as milkman. John’s 12 year old sister Elizabeth is also living at the property.
Frances also has a boarder, 32 year old W. G. Parmiter, a plumber from Portsmouth. Presumably she has taken in a boarder to help with the bills now that Henry has passed away.
Frances died in 1909.
Mr Parmiter, however, can be found on the 1911 Census living at 37 Sturton Street with his wife Addelaide and their three children.
