History of Higher Grade schools

This is the site of the Higher Grade Infants School and later the Girls High Grade School.

In the picture above of the Infants School, the older lady is Miss Bond, and the pupil teacher, Jessie, who later went on to teach at the Central School.

It had been a clothing factory run by the Suttle family. Leslie had taken over from his father Frank who started the business in Fitzroy Street at the beginning of the C20th.

In 1981 it was a warehouse and workshop for Kitchen 22.
