According to Cottenham in Focus (2002), there were six houses here known as Bugs Alley at the back of the Ebenezer Chapel. In 1934 the Council Surveyor , Mr Davy, said that from the point of view of slum conditions, he knew of no other piece of property in the county to compare. The houses had no backyards or adequate air space. One house never received any sunlight.
They were owned at the time by Mrs Cross, wife of the Rural District Councillor for Cottenham. Demolition was ordered in 1934 and a Sunday School for the Ebenezer Chapel was built on the site.
