South Street is presumed to be the old name for the High Street. exact locations of the Maynard properties are unknown at present.
South street was also the home of James Jackson, shoemaker, whose diary/register of 1832 to 1869 is held by Cambridgeshire Archive Service (CAS 546/Z1).
James Jackson kept his diary in the form of a register of events. Many of these are deaths, one or two a month. The copy held by CAS has an opening facsimile page with a note that in 1832 Jim Jackson was 47 years of age and that there is a drawing of his shoemaker’s shop on page 77. James also notes serious weather events and personal accidents.
