1901 – 1924

Head of household between 1901 and 1924 is George Johnson.

In 1881 George was lodging at 5 Mill Street with 53 year old widow Catherine Webb.  At that time he was a Police Constable.  On the 1891 census he is still living at 5 Mill Street, only this time he is living with his elderly parents and has been promoted to Police Serjeant.

George (from Soham) married Louisa Taylor (from Melbourn) in early 1893 and they are living here at 6 Sturton Street by the time of the 1901 census.  By now, George is a Police Inspector

In 1901 the couple have George’s niece, Elizabeth E Ball, living with them.  She works as a dressmaker.  The Enumerator has recorded “N.K.” under “Where Born”, which means Elizabeth doesn’t know where she was born, or George didn’t know where she was born.

By 1911 George is a Police Pensioner and is 64 years old.  Louisa is now 63.  The electoral registers show that George stays at 6 Sturton Street until 1924.  Louisa died in September 1923. George died in March 1925.
