The building was originally a prefabricated part of the First Eastern General Military Hospital in Cambridge in WWI. After the war, the building was purchased by the Catholic Church in Hills Road to serve as a men’s club and church hall. In the 1930s it was dismantled and used as St Laurence’s High Street Chesterton before being set up again on Ditton Lane.
